War-torn Versnag (X68000) (gamerip) (1993)

The composer here (Ryu Umemoto) has something of a cult following for old Japanese synth music. Sadly though, most of his work is for nsfw games and companies so it's generally not great for sharing with friends (and hence, I just outright avoid it). However, Family Soft and Warn-torn Versnag are perfectly fine "family" products (per the company name) and if you listen to this album, you'll see why people are crazy about his music. After listening to at least a couple hundred X68000 albums at this point, I have to say that Umemoto's work is in the top tier of the system. He manages to squeeze crystal clear sound out of the synthesizer and create these really ambient sounding tracks that just unparalleled in terms of quality and quantity for the system. The only albums outside of his work that even attempt something similar on the X68000 are Ano, Subarashii o Mou Ichido and Sora no Fudousan, which would be released much later long after the X68000 was a standard system and not approach the quality found here. Overall, 10/10. It's a great convergence of quality, quantity, and consistency. There are no bad tracks, only great.

Some examples of strong ambient tracks are: Stage 5,6,8~10, Stage 7,12, Stage 13.
Especially Great tracks in my opinion: Stage 14, Stage 2, Game Over
Also notably good: Stage 11, Event 1, Ending 1, Ending 2
