Burai Joukan (PC-98) (gamerip) (1989)

This is one of those albums where the composer is just clearly talented. The tracks move from doomy, energetic, peppy, funky, and remorseful all pretty effectively and frequently use clever little flourishes. That being said, the album is held back by a sometimes basic instrumentation. While it was, of course, 1989, it just hasn't held up as well, even though it's still great. I would be really interested in seeing a remake of this using a more refined instrumentation. Aside from that, this album is an easy listen through for the first half if you want something to zone out too. However, there are a lot of variants of the same tracks in the latter half of the album (16-18 + 20-21 are the same, as also are 22-24 and 25-27), if you're trying to avoid getting distracted, but the first half is good zone out music. Overall, 8.75/10.

My personal favorites are: Tracks 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 19, 24, 27, 29, 31, 32
