Description

A sort of "remake" of 1943, released less than a year after the original! Not to be confused with Naxat's PC-Engine port that rearranges things further, this soundtrack has been taken from Capcom Classics Reloaded and trimmed and tagged, just like the original 1943.

1943 Kai: Midway Kaisen has a great soundtrack that reuses a handful of songs from 1943: The Battle Of Midway (NES). As for the game itself, it's good, but not as good as 1943: The Battle Of Midway. The level design is okay, but nothing special compared to the last one. As for the bosses, they're fun to fight even tho they feel very similar to the last game, but that's fine. The game also has the same weapons that the last one had, but they did replace the auto weapon with a powerful piercing laser attack that just anniliates enemies and bosses. As for the difficulty, this game is hard as hell. It's not Gradius II hard, but it's up there. For starters, they spam enemies all over the screen and you have to be moving around constantly in order to avoid most of them. By the way, they increase the difficulty even further because in the last stage, it's just a gauntlet of enemies and a insanely hard boss because you have enemies attacking you every five seconds with way too many projectiles too dodge. Also, for some stupid reason, you only get one shot at the last stage and if you die, you get sent back to the title screen unlike the last nine stages where you get more chances. Yes, there's only 10 levels compared to the 16 levels of 1943: The Battle Of Midway (Arcade) or the 24 levels of the NES version. Thankfully, I played this on the Capcom Arcade Stadium, so I used that rewind feature to beat the last stage instead of doing another run (the only game in the series where I had to do that). Overall, 1943 Kai: Midway Kaisen is a good game with okay levels, great bosses, a great soundtrack, great weapons, and it's insanely hard, but in a fun way... for the most part.
Game: 6.4/10.
Soundtrack: 7/10.
Note: I plan to review Capcom's 194X series, so I'll go into more detail when I eventually review this series.
