Description

Go! Go! Birdie Chance is an anime-style golf game. The player controls female high school students who assemble a golf team and wish to remain undefeated. The story mode contains extensive text-based cutscenes, depicting the girls' struggle against an arrogant male golfer, with golf matches proceeding as dictated by the plot. The free mode allows one or two players to select any of the three available female characters and compete against each other or computer AI. It is possible to select golf club types, course terrain, strike types, and the player's strong hand. Strength and direction of the shot is determined by stopping a moving bar at the right moment.

The year was 1996. The PC-FX was released two years prior, the Playstation only a year ago, and the N64 was just hitting the market with Mario 64, which would revolutionize the gaming industry. And what did NEC do? Release an anime golf game on a nine year old last generation console with an 8-bit processor.

Well, it looks beautiful and sounds pretty good, at least. The native synth tracks are peppy and have a sweet nostalgic sound to them. While the instrumentation is a bit basic, it's used very well. The CD Audio tracks, by contrast, are a bit weak. The background music is good but the singing is unimpressive (especially in the last track). But hey, "Magic chance for you!"
