Description

Thunder Cross is a classic horizontal shooter with seven stages. Players control the Thunder fighter with up to four "options", which arrange up and down vertically and attack at the player's will. Three weapons are selectable ranging from the Vulcan shot to the Laser and the Boomerang shot (which doubles as a ricochet weapon). End-of-level bosses were present and, typical of a Konami shooter, Thunder Cross forced the player to beat the game twice in a harder Loop of the first seven levels.

Thunder Cross is a fantastic game with a good soundtrack. The soundtrack is good while playing the game, but it doesn't have any themes that will stick with you after you finish the game. As for the game itself, it's a fun time killer that has incredible bosses with fast and intense patterns (I played this game on very hard mode via the Konami arcade anniversary collection), fun weapons with the same power system as Gradius, and fun enemies to shoot through with good looking stages. However, if you suck at shoot em ups or if you're just getting into the genre, then don't play this game because it is really hard. The fourth stage especially because you have so many projectiles and enemies coming at you at insane speeds and on top of that, you have to make sure you don't fly into the boss ship you're fighting because it's one of those "The boss is the level" kind of stages. Unfortunately, this game never got a nes port like Gradius, Gradius II (Famicom), or Life Force which is a real shame because I can't imagine what they'll do for a NES Thunder Cross port. Overall, Thunder Cross is a good time killer with intense bosses, good level design with fun enemies, great weapons, and a good soundtrack.
Soundtrack: 6.5/10.
Game: 7/10.
