For anyone browsing Ultima game OSTs: Most of the games are playable on DOS with native MIDI support, from Ultima 5 forwards. The earlier games in the franchise also have MIDI support which can be modded in. This way, you can use a sound card emulator like MUNT to make the music sound however you like, customizing reverb, gain/loss, instrument synths, etc. The Sharp X86000 version of this music is not bad by any means, but can be customized in many ways in the DOS ports, which is why there are so many soundtrack variants for these games.

This album is not bad but it is exactly what you imagine a slow, dark, dungeon explorer from 1990 to sound like. It's fairly uneventful, basic, has an occasional good tune, fairly minimal but not minimalistic in the good sense, and overall just there. I'd give it a 7/10. You might like this more than me.

In my opinion:
Decent Tracks: Cap'n Johne's Hornpipe, Fanfare for the Virtues, Worlds Below, Dream of Lady Nan
